Safer Buildings WORK GROUP ROUNDUP
In this section we’ll bring you updates on the important work done by our Codes & Standards, Government Affairs and Advancement Work Groups.
Our Work Groups are the vehicles by which:
- Members’ voices are heard as SBC develops new public policy, codes, and standards (Government Affairs, Codes and Standards)
- We develop Training Programs and Educational Content (Education)
- Members tell us how to improve the Coalition to better serve them and the mission (Advancement)
- Members can hear first changes in the industry involving all of the above
- Each Work Group is guided by a Chair and a Vice Chair. The reports below will provide monthly updates from the Chair of each Work Group.
- Participation in Work Groups is one of the best ways to realize value form your Safer Buildings Coalition Membership. Work Group participation is open to all Members of every type.
If you are interested in participating in a Work Group, please contact the Chair of the group.

Codes & Standards Work Group Update
Work continues on the website matrices for BDAs and DAS products. Some work still needs to be done to make sure all the submittals fit into the matrix. Members who have not submitted their product listings are invited to do so.
We have expanded the number of State Level Sub-committees to expand our local knowledge in each of the most active areas:
- Javier Herrera is taking FL subcommittee lead
- Richard Roberts is taking CA subcommittee lead
- Joe Kurdas is taking IL, MI subcommittee lead
- Dennis Burns is taking DC area, and assisting with Broward Co, FL.
AT&T LTE performance standards feedback subcommittee will have another meeting on 1/30 to refine that feedback with a few new members taking part. Josh Gerst leads this subcommittee.
Greg Glenn is leading the UL 2524 subcommittee and they had their first meeting on 1/10. Work on this subcommittee to provide useful feedback to UL will continue.
David Adams of PCTel is working on a study to correlate signal quality measurements with a DAQ study and would like to work with vendors/integrators to work with that report on.
Chief Alan Perdue is working on a new presentation for SBC training presentations now!
Advancement Work Group Update
At its latest meeting, the SBC Advancement group reviewed the member versus non-member access rights for validity. The group also considered how to both 1) continue to serve the best interest of our members, and 2) focus on topics that’ll encourage non-members to join the SBC organization.
The group went through the different verticals within the organization and categorized where we have the necessary representation and where we lack or more representation. The group will take this cross-member analysis and reach out to verticals, along with AHJs with introduction invitations about the SBC organization.
